Nathalia Junior Development Day

Junior Development Day

Monday the 15 January was our annual Junior Development Day, sponsored by Ryan Meat Group. We had 26 participants from our junior tennis teams and green hot shots group, which is a fantastic number! The day was coordinated by club coach Mark Mills and his helpers, which included local tennis players, Ryan Bell and Pat Ryan.

The day consisted of improving individual tennis skills and understanding match play and strategy, all while building good sportsmanship and tennis etiquette. The kids enjoyed a delicious morning tea and bbq lunch. Thank you to the parents who helped on the day with morning tea and lunch.

Junior tennis resumes on Saturday 3 February, with 1st placed B2 Purple taking on Mooroopna away and 5th placed B2 Gold at home to Shepp Lawn White. Meanwhile, 1st placed C2 Purple are away at Kialla Park and 2nd placed C2 Gold take on Katandra West at home. Our parent co-ordinated match play for green group will also commence on Saturday 3 February for those kids interested.

Div 3 - 20th Jan: GM 3 headed to Ky on Saturday where the day started well with Anthony Wilson winning his singles 6 - 0 and David very reliable Scadden winning 6 - 2. Anthony then teamed with Liam Booth to win 8 - 4. Our only other win was in the ladies doubles where Loretta Richardson and Helen Ginnivan won 8 - 4. Still confident of beating the top team and only 8 games behind, our mixed pairs were unable to produce the wins needed. Jimmy Brereton, who was injured, teamed with Phillippa Slinger who could run while Jim could hit winners. They went down 5 - 8. Anthony and Helen had a long set but could not do better than 5 - 8. The day was played in good spirit with an enjoyable afternoon tea. In the end the top team had a convincing win and will be challenging to beat come finals.

Div 4 - 13th Jan: A great day on the courts for Nathalia GM4. Apart from the hot windy conditions the team came away with a great win defeating Tatura Storm 62 to 46.

Judith Slattery starred being the teams only 3 set winner winning all of her sets 8 - 1.

Lucy and Matt Daniel both won 2 of their 3 sets, while Kim Daniel narrowly lost in a tie break with both Lucy and Matt Slattery.
